Styled celebration catering in Nepean, Ontario

Nepean, Ontario holds the widest mix of rooms anywhere in the service area, and the hall is the room that sets it apart. Post-war bungalows through Bells Corners and City View, larger Centrepointe houses, office suites above the Merivale plazas, and a steady run of community centres, church halls and legion rooms used for showers, anniversaries, club nights and celebrations of life. A hall changes the plan more than any house does, so this page starts there.

01

Halls rent in blocks, and the block sets the build

A community hall is rented for a fixed span of hours, and everything has to happen inside it: key or fob collection, setup, the event, pack-down and a room left as it was found. That single fact drives the whole schedule. A four-hour block around a two-hour shower leaves an hour at each end, which is a real setup window and a tight one. The build is planned to the block, and we confirm the exact start of your access before quoting.

02

What we ask a hall before quoting

Halls differ from one another far more than houses do, and the answers change the quote. These five questions get asked of the booking coordinator, and the answers are worth having in writing before you sign the rental agreement.

  • Are tables supplied, how many, and what length are they — folding tables come in known sizes and that decides the layout
  • What is the route from the parking lot: door width, a step or a ramp, stairs or an elevator to an upstairs room
  • Is outside food permitted, and is the hall kitchen available, locked, or reserved by the hall’s own caterer
  • How early does access actually start, and what time must the room be empty
  • Does the hall ask a supplier working on site for documentation
03

The paperwork answer, in full

OH! works out of a rented licensed commercial kitchen in Ottawa. There is no liability policy in OH!'s own name today, so a venue-specific certificate of insurance is something we cannot supply. Venues in Ottawa routinely ask suppliers for one, so raise it with us early and you get a straight answer for your date and venue in writing.

04

Bungalows and compact dining rooms

The post-war stock through Bells Corners, City View and Arlington Woods was built with separate rooms and modest kitchens: a dining room that seats eight, a doorway narrower than a modern build, and a sideboard that often turns out to be the second-best surface in the house. A shorter table is composed with height instead of length, which keeps it reading as generous from the doorway of a small room. Basements are a common venue in this stock, and a staircase with a turn at the bottom is a genuine constraint on what can be carried down in one piece.

05

Merivale offices above the plazas

Business addresses along Merivale, Colonnade and Slack Road are mostly low-rise suites over retail, and almost none of them have a loading dock. Access means a customer parking lot, a rear or side door that may be locked, and sometimes a flight of stairs to a second-floor suite. We plan the unload point and the carry with whoever holds the door code, and those extra minutes sit in the schedule from the start, well clear of an 11:40 scramble before a noon lunch.

06

Celebration-of-life tables

Halls and legion rooms in this part of the city hold a steady share of memorial gatherings, and they are planned differently from a party. The guest count is genuinely uncertain until the day, so the table is built to look complete at the lower number and to absorb the higher one. Arrivals spread across two or three hours, so the food has to hold and be replenished quietly. The build happens well before anyone arrives, and the pack-down waits for the room to empty on its own.
