Vegan, Vegetarian and Allergy-Aware Catering in Ottawa

Every guest can read the table.

This page carries the dietary position in full: what is planned in, what the cards say, which questions we ask before a quote, and exactly where a promise stops. It applies across every format we build — grazing tables, brunch, receptions and dessert displays — because a shared surface raises the same questions whatever is on it.

The OH! approach

A beautiful party table,
ready when your guests arrive.

01

The position, stated once

Share dietary preferences and allergy information when you enquire. We plan suitable choices and label the table clearly. For severe or life-threatening allergies we talk through cross-contact before you book, and we cannot guarantee allergen-free preparation on a shared table.

02

Vegetarian, as a standing rule

At least a third of every table is vegetarian, and it is distributed across the surface in runs so it never ends up grouped in one corner as an afterthought. A guest with restrictions then serves themselves without asking a stranger what is in anything, which is the entire point of the rule. On a grazing table that third spans the rich, fresh, salty and substantial categories, so the vegetarian route through the table is a full meal on its own.

03

Vegan tables

A fully vegan table is planned as its own composition across the same six categories, so the rich category does the most work: cultured nut and oil-based spreads, marinated and roasted vegetables with real depth, olives and preserved items, and a substantial baked element that eats like a main. The quote names every item so the host sees the whole spread before the date and can circulate it to guests who want to know.

04

Gluten-aware, and why that word

Gluten-aware items are made without gluten-containing ingredients and labelled with exactly that phrase. A shared commercial kitchen and a shared serving surface make a gluten-free guarantee something OH! will not offer, so the card matches what is true. Every table carries at least one clearly labelled gluten-aware item in the substantial category, because a guest who can only eat crudités has been catered to on paper alone.

05

Nut-aware planning

Nuts are a visible category on a grazing table and a hidden one in bakery, pesto, dressings and some cheeses. Where a severe nut allergy is on the guest list we plan the menu around it before the quote goes out, which usually means removing the visible nut run entirely and checking the supply chain on the bakery and sauce items. The conversation happens at enquiry, never on the day.

06

The questions we ask before quoting

These five answers change a menu, and they are easier to give in an email than to improvise while a table is being built.

  • Which allergen, and how severe — airborne, contact, or ingestion
  • Whether that guest normally eats from a shared surface at all
  • Whether a separate portion, plated and covered, would suit them better
  • Which preferences are absolute and which are preferences
  • Whether any guest is coeliac, since that changes the wording we are willing to use
07

How the table is labelled

A label earns its place when a guest holding a plate reads it in one second.

  • Plain-language item name first, dietary markers second
  • The same markers used consistently across the whole surface
  • Cards placed physically with the food they describe, never on a master list at one end
  • Wording that states what is in an item and stops short of implying allergen-free preparation
  • Severe allergy information collected before menu planning, never on the day
08

Where the food is prepared

OH! is a service-area business in Ottawa. Food is prepared in a rented commercial kitchen in Ottawa, then delivered and composed on the table in your space. There is no storefront and no public address. It is a shared commercial kitchen, which is the reason the cross-contact conversation happens before you book.

09

Halal and kosher

OH! cannot make either claim today. Halal preparation needs a verified supplier chain and a documented handling practice; kosher needs supervision of a kitchen OH! rents. Neither exists here, so neither appears on a quote or on this site. Where either requirement is firm, a caterer certified for it is the right call and we will say so on the phone in the first minute.

10

Individual portions as an alternative

Where the shared surface is the problem, individual graze cups or a plated covered portion solve it cleanly. Each is made as its own batch, labelled with the guest name where you want it, and set aside from the main display. This is quoted as part of the same event, so it changes the menu without changing how the booking works.

11

Costs and terms

Dietary planning is part of the quote and carries no surcharge. Styled tables start at $42 per guest, plus applicable taxes, and the working range runs $42–$65 per guest, with the top of it being tables that replace a meal. Your quote is built from four things: guest count, table format, how long the event runs and the setup the room needs, and it separates food, styling and delivery so each part of the number is visible. The event minimum is $600 before delivery and taxes. Delivery and on-site styling are $45 within 25 km. Past that, the charge is quoted for your address before you book.

Questions, answered

Before you
say OH!

How far in advance should I book catering in Ottawa?

Two to four weeks is a comfortable planning window for a styled table. December dates, long-weekend Saturdays and shower season fill earliest, and short-notice weekday events are always worth asking about.

How do you handle allergies and dietary requirements?

Share dietary preferences and allergy information when you enquire. We plan suitable choices and label the table clearly. For severe or life-threatening allergies we talk through cross-contact before you book, and we cannot guarantee allergen-free preparation on a shared table.

What does a styled table cost?

Styled tables start at $42 per guest, plus applicable taxes, and the working range runs $42–$65 per guest, with the top of it being tables that replace a meal. Your quote is built from four things: guest count, table format, how long the event runs and the setup the room needs, and it separates food, styling and delivery so each part of the number is visible. The event minimum is $600 before delivery and taxes. Delivery and on-site styling are $45 within 25 km. Past that, the charge is quoted for your address before you book.

What are the deposit, cancellation and final-count terms?

A 30% deposit and a signed quote hold your date, and the balance is due 3 days before the event. Move or cancel more than 14 days out and the deposit is refunded; inside that window it covers the sourcing already committed. Final guest count is due 7 days before the event. After that the shopping list is set: numbers can still rise, and the count stops coming down. Every figure is quoted plus applicable taxes.

Where do you deliver?

We serve the City of Ottawa, Ontario. Kanata, Stittsville, Nepean, Barrhaven, Westboro, the central neighbourhoods, Orléans, Manotick and Riverside South sit inside the standard delivery area, where delivery and on-site styling are $45. Past 25 km the delivery charge is quoted for your address and appears on the quote before you book.

How do I reach you?

Call +1 613 710-0554 with your date, guest count and neighbourhood, or send the same details through the enquiry form. We answer every enquiry within one business day, and the reply names the next step and the date being held while we talk.

What happens after I enquire?

We answer every enquiry within one business day, and the reply names the next step and the date being held while we talk. You send the date, guest count, neighbourhood and a sentence about the room. We reply with a starting format and the two or three questions that move the quote. You get one written quote separating food, styling, delivery and travel, with terms attached. A signed quote and deposit hold the date, then the menu is finalised around season and dietary needs. We arrive ahead of guests, build the table in the room and take the serving pieces away afterwards.

Can you cater a fully vegan table?

Yes. A vegan table is planned as its own composition across the same six categories rather than an omnivore table with items removed, and the quote names each item so the host can see the whole spread before the date.

Why do you say gluten-aware instead of gluten-free?

A shared kitchen and a shared table make a gluten-free guarantee something we cannot stand behind, so the wording stays honest. Gluten-aware items are made without gluten-containing ingredients and labelled as such, and the cross-contact conversation happens before you book.

Can you provide halal or kosher catering?

OH! cannot make either claim today. Halal preparation needs a verified supplier and a documented handling practice, and kosher needs supervision of a kitchen that OH! rents rather than owns. Neither exists, so neither appears on a quote.

How are dietary items labelled on the table?

Every item carries a card with its plain-language name first and its dietary markers second, using the same markers across the whole table. Cards are placed physically with the food they describe. Labels state what is in an item and stop short of implying allergen-free preparation.
